1. Do we need to use Power BI, or can you build custom dashboards?

You don't need Power BI to build powerful web dashboard in Hedgineer. However, many firms already have Microsoft 365 subscriptions with Power BI licenses, trained analysts, and existing reports they want to preserve. In those cases, integrating the Hedgineer platform with Power BI is faster and leverages your team's existing Microsoft ecosystem. We're platform-agnostic: if Power BI fits your workflow, we'll make it seamless. If custom applications better serve your needs, we'll build those instead. Many clients use both—Power BI for self-service reporting and custom apps for specialized workflows like trade execution analytics or real-time portfolio monitoring.

2. How do you integrate with our existing Power BI environment?

We connect to your existing Power BI Service workspaces within your Microsoft 365 tenant and create dedicated semantic models (datasets) pointing to the Hedgineer platform (typically in Snowflake, Databricks, or Azure Synapse). These models appear alongside your existing ones, so analysts can build reports combining Hedgineer data with other internal datasets using composite models or cross-workspace references. We work with your Power BI admins to configure workspace roles, set up deployment pipelines (dev/test/prod), and establish refresh schedules. We don't require tenant-level admin access—just workspace contributor or admin permissions for designated workspaces. If you use Power BI Premium or Fabric capacities, we optimize for those environments.

3. What kind of data models and reports do you provide?

We provide production-ready semantic models with star schema design optimized for Power BI's columnstore engine: portfolio holdings with pricing and returns, performance attribution with factor exposures, risk decomposition with Barra/Axioma factor data, and trade analytics with execution metrics. These models include pre-built DAX measures for common calculations (TWR, IRR, Sharpe ratio, attribution effects) and time-intelligence functions configured for your fiscal calendar. We also build starter reports for key workflows (daily PnL, portfolio exposure, compliance monitoring) using Power BI best practices—consistent formatting, drill-through navigation, and mobile-optimized layouts. Your analysts can customize these reports or build new ones using the semantic models we provide.

4. How does authentication and security work?

We implement row-level security (RLS) using Power BI's security roles with DAX filter expressions, ensuring analysts only see portfolios, accounts, or securities they're authorized to access. RLS is enforced in Power BI Service before data is rendered, and we can also layer in database-level security (Snowflake row access policies) for defense-in-depth. For authentication, we use Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) with SSO—analysts log in to Power BI once using their corporate credentials and are automatically authenticated to underlying data sources via OAuth or service principals. For embedded scenarios, we configure service principal authentication with Power BI Embedded capacity. All connections use encrypted channels (HTTPS, TLS) and follow your firm's conditional access policies (MFA, device compliance, IP restrictions).
